HC Deb 14 April 1967 vol 744 cc262-3W
Sir R. Russell

asked the Postmaster-General how much was paid in compensation for loss of registered letters sent overseas in 1966 or the latest convenient 12-month period; and why the compensation is only £2 18s. for the same registration fee as the minimum for inland post.

Mr. Edward Short

The amount for 1966 was £1,048 14s. 3d. Compensation in the overseas registered letter post is limited to £2 18s. under the terms of the Universal Postal Union Convention, to which this country is a signatory. We give the same standard of security to overseas and inland items and therefore the same charge is applicable.
