HC Deb 12 April 1967 vol 744 c208W
Mr. Blenkinsop

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will make a statement about acquisitions of property in lieu of Estate Duty.

Mr. MacDermot

Sissinghurst Castle, its gardens and some 270 acres of adjoining agricultural land have been offered to Inland Revenue by the Executors of the late Lady Nicolson (Miss Victoria Sackville West) in part satisfaction of estate duty. The offer has been accepted, at a cost to the National Land Fund of £41,500, and the property has been transferred to the National Trust, which will hold it for the enjoyment of the public.
