HC Deb 11 April 1967 vol 744 cc155-6W
Mr. Robert Davies

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the cost to the Exchequer in 1965–66 of tax relief on mortgage interest for house purchase, the abolition of Schedule A tax for owner-occupiers, and subsidies for local authority housing, respectively.

Mr. MacDermot

The Answer to the first part of the Question is £135 million. The cost of the abolition of Schedule A tax was estimated in the Financial Statement for 1963–64 as £35 million in 1963–64 and £48 million for a full year; it is not possible to give a figure for 1965–66. The 1965–66 cost of local authority housing subsidies in Great Britain was nearly £95 million.
