HC Deb 11 April 1967 vol 744 c169W
Mr. Clegg

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what discussions he has had with the White Fish Authority about the effect of oil or detergents on inshore fish breeding areas.

Mr. Peart

Experience since the "Torrey Canyon" disaster confirms the advice of the Department's scientists that oil and detergents are not likely to have any appreciable effect on fish breeding grounds. Special measures are being taken to protect oyster beds which could be endangered by the use of detergents in estuaries.

Advice on these matters has been widely disseminated but there have been no special discussions with the White Fish Authority.
