HC Deb 11 April 1967 vol 744 c171W
Mr. Whitaker

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what proportions of each of the main types of school in the country are co-educational for their pupils, and which have both male and female teachers, respectively.

Mr. Crosland

In January 1966, the proportions of schools with boys and girls on their rolls expressed as percentages of all schools in each category, were as follows:

Per cent.
Maintained primary 98
Secondary modern 63
Maintained grammar 35
Technical schools 41
Comprehensive schools 68
Other maintained secondary 66
Special schools 76
Direct grant grammar 1
Independent schools recognised as efficient 24
Other independent schools 76

I regret that similar information about which of the schools employ both men and women teachers is not available.
