Mr. Hale

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how many convictions for rape and attempted rape were recorded in the years 1938, 1949, and 1960, respectively; and what was the average sentence of imprisonment imposed on either charge;

(2) how many convictions for robbery with violence were recorded in the years 1938, 1949, and 1960, respectively; and what was the average sentence of imprisonment imposed;

(3) what was the number of convictions for burglary or housebreaking by night recorded in the years 1938, 1949, and 1960, respectively; and what was the average term of imprisonment imposed in each such year for those offences.
