HC Deb 23 November 1966 vol 736 c314W
132 and 133. Mr. Albert Evans

asked the Postmaster-General (1) if he is aware that charges for insertions in the London Trades Directory for 1967 are to be increased by over 50 per cent. by the publishers, Messrs. Thomson; and if he will reduce them under the Prices and Incomes Act;

(2) if he will state the main terms of the contract he has made with Messrs. Thomson for the publication of the London Trades Directory, 1967; and what are the conditions regarding charges and profits.

Mr. Edward Short

Under their contract Thomson Directories Limited sell advertisements and special entries in classified telephone directories on behalf of the Post Office and retain an agreed percentage of the revenue as their commission. They also have discretion to decide the rate structure. The scale of charges applicable to the 1967 London Classified Telephone Directory was announced by Thomsons in March, 1966.
