HC Deb 21 November 1966 vol 736 cc243-4W
Mr. Barnett

asked the Postmaster-General how many telephone lines there are between London and Manchester; what has been the improvement in the last five years; what are future plans; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Edward Short

There are 1,500 trunk lines carrying traffic between Manchester and London. Five years ago there were 900. By early 1968 there should be 2,000, and by 1969, 3,000.
