HC Deb 21 November 1966 vol 736 c212W
46. Mr. Oakes

asked the Minister of Social Security whether, in the light of recent medical research, she will amend the Industrial Injuries (Prescribed Diseases) Regulations to provide for the payment of benefit to persons suffering from prescribed industrial diseases, particularly asbestosis, which were contracted before the appointed day but which have only recently become manifest.

Mr. Harold Davies

Those who suffer from asbestosis as a result of employment before 5th July, 1948 can already claim benefit under the provisions of the Industrial Diseases (Benefit) Act, 1954. New legislation would be required to cover industrial diseases which were not scheduled under the Workmen's Compensation Act.
