§ 21. Mr. Geoffrey Lloydasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will seek to amend the law so as to ensure that the courts give consideration to the ordering of Borstal training at a stage in a boy's criminal career when it is most likely to be effective.
§ Mr. TaverneI have no reason to think that the courts do not give adequate consideration to the possibility of a Borstal sentence when sentencing an offender who is eligible for it. In any event, I do not think that this is a matter which could appropriately be dealt with by amendment of the law.
