HC Deb 15 November 1966 vol 736 cc94-5W
Mr. William Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for Wales at what level below maximum capacity Llyn Celyn is kept during periods of heavy rainfall.

Mr. Cledwyn Hughes

To provide greater flood storage capacity during periods when heavy rainfall might be expected, the Dee and Clwyd River Authority has directed that the retention levels of Llyn Celyn be varied as follows:

Number of feet at which retention level is to be kept below spillway level
December to February 10
March 4
April to October 3
November 7

Mr. William Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what consultations take place between his office, Liverpool Corporation, the Merioneth County Council and the river boards to ensure that Llyn Tegid and Llyn Celyn are used to maximum advantage to prevent flooding.

Mr. Cledwyn Hughes

This is a matter for the Dee and Clwyd River Authority on which Merioneth County Council are represented. In making its decisions the Authority is assisted by a consultative committee which includes representatives of the Liverpool Corporation.
