§ Sir C. Osborneasked the Minister of Labour how many months each of the 24 men declared redundant at the British Motor Corporation's Oxford factory, whose dismissal has caused a strike and made 34,000 men jobless, have worked for the firm; what were their previous jobs; what is the estimated loss of production so far; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mrs. Shirley WilliamsI understand from the British Motor Corporation that the 24 men joined the company this year. One was engaged in January, 5 in March, 12 in April, 3 in May, 1 in June and 2 in August. It would not be proper for me to disclose information about the previous occupations of these men, which is not in any case available from the Ministry's own records. The Corporation estimates that up to 11th November the loss of production due to the strike was about 20,000 cars.
