HC Deb 15 November 1966 vol 736 cc53-4W
58. Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer on what date he was last in Germany to discuss the question of the support costs for British troops in Germany; what was the difference in marks in the amount offered by the German Government and the amount claimed by Her Majesty's Government; and what change there has been between the date of these discus- sions and Thursday, 3rd November, so far as Great Britain's official claim is concerned.

Mr. Callaghan

13th October. The Germans offered DM 350 million against our requirement of DM 860 million. Since that date the tripartite U.K./U.S./ German talks have started, and I still await their outcome.
