§ Mr. SwinglerThe only roads at present maintained wholly from local rate revenue are unclassified roads, which on 1st April, 1965, comprised 50.37 per cent. of the total mileage of roads in Wales and 55.24 per cent. in England. Under the provisions of the Local Government Bill, the present system of specific grants for the maintenance of classified roads is to be replaced, from 1st April, 1967, by financial assistance for the maintenance of all local authority roads through the rate support grant.
