§ Mr. MarshPneumatic stowing is used on a very limited scale for packing waste returned from the surface, when it is needed for roof control. There are formidable technical and financial limitations to any general return of waste underground. Woking collieries are not laid out for this and the amount of waste that could be disposed in old colliery shafts is relatively small.
