HC Deb 09 November 1966 vol 735 c302W
93. Mr. Pounder

asked the Minister of Aviation how many persons were employed in the United Kingdom aircraft industry in September, 1966; how this figure compares with that for September, 1964; and what is the employment estimate for 1970.

Mr. Mulley

The latest available statistics are for the month of August, 1966, when the labour force in the industry was 256,000. In September, 1964 the figure was 269,400.

I estimate that the labour force will be about 200,000 in 1970 which is the figure I gave the House last February, during the debate on the Plowden Report.
