Mr. J. P. W. Mallalieu

The numbers are as follows:

Portsmouth Devonport Chatham Rosyth
1962 1 1
1963 2 1
1964 1 1
1965 1 1
1966 1 2 1

Mr. Adam Hunter

asked the Secretary of State for Defence when examinations for qualified technical staff in Her Majesty's Dockyards are normally held; and how long elapses before results are announced.

Mr. J. P. W. Mallalieu

The Inspector of Trades examination is held every second, even-numbered, year. Candidates successful at a written examination in July go for interview, and the final results have been coming out about eleven months after the written examination. We plan to reduce this time by new arrangements for the interviews.
