§ Mr. Martenasked the President of the Board of Trade what action he has taken to secure effective control over the conditions under which animals are transported by air; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. MasonAs stated by my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Aviation on 11th May, 1966, in reply to the hon. Members for Plymouth, Devonport (Dame Joan Vickers), and for Gillingham (Mr. Burden), this is essentially an international problem. It cannot be solved on a purely national basis. The most promising approach is through the airlines themselves. A special study group which has been set up by the International Air Transport Association is now at work on the problem. My Department is following the progress of their deliberations and we will consider what action, if any, to take in the light of their findings.—[OFFICIAL REPORT; Vol. 728, c. 371.]
