HC Deb 02 November 1966 vol 735 cc132-3W
Mr. Weatherill

asked the Minister of Labour (1) what was the total sum collected by the Engineering Industry Training Board by way of levy for the first six months of 1965–66; and what was the total amount of grant awarded in respect of the same period;

(2) what was the amount of levy or grant collected and awarded in the first six months of 1965–66 by the Engineering Industry Training Board to firms having over 1,000 employees, between 1,000 and 300 employees, and under 300 employees, respectively.

Mr. Gunter

I do not require Industrial Training Boards to supply me with this kind of information for periods less than a full financial year. The Engineering Industrial Training Board have however been good enough to provide me with the following information.

The first instalment of the Board's levy has yielded £34.8 million of which £2.4 million was paid by firms which had made no claim for grants. The amount awarded in grants for the first half of the 1965–66 grant year was approximately £29 million, of which payment of £4.6 million has been deferred until payment is made of grants for the second half of the year. A number of claims for grant have still to be dealt with.

The information asked for in the hon. Member's second Question is not available.
