§ 89. Mr. Hefferasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the recent development of Government policy by which 2 per cent. is accepted as a general level of unemployment on a permanent basis, he will instruct all Ministers responsible for spending Departments to take urgent steps to reinflate the economy so as to bring about a rapid fall in unemployment.
§ Mr. MacDermotIt would be premature to reinflate the economy before the measures taken have served their purpose of remedying our balance of payments position.
