§ 79. Mr. Steeleasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has received with regard to the voting powers of councillors appointed by large burghs to the county council; what reply he has sent; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. RossThe Town Councils of Dumbarton and Clydebank have represented to me that the law should be changed to enable the representatives of large burghs to vote in the election of conveners and chairman of committees of county councils. The reply to Dumbarton Town Council rehearsed the terms of the statute governing these matters and suggested that any question of a change in the law should await the report of the Royal Commission on Local Government.
