asked the Minister of Transport if she will add the Hurst Green to Lewes line to those commuter services which British Railways will not be permitted to close.

In accordance with normal arrangements my right hon. Friend has asked the Economic Planning Council for the South East for its comments on the broad planning implications of the closure of this service.

She will decide whether or not to allow publication of the proposals as soon as possible after receiving its report.
