HC Deb 09 March 1966 vol 725 cc553-4W
Mr. Forrest

asked the Postmaster-General how many recorded delivery letters posted in Northern Ireland have failed to reach their destination during the past 12 months.

Mr. Joseph Slater

In 1965 there were 182 claims for compensation for the loss of recorded delivery letters posted in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Forrest

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that a recorded delivery letter posted by Mrs. Moore at Omagh, County Tyrone, to an address in London, containing £6 in notes, did not reach its destination; what steps he has taken to trace the letter; and whether he will compensate Mrs. Moore for the loss.

Mr. Joseph Slater

Every effort has been made to trace the missing letter but without success. Banknotes are specifically prohibited from the recorded delivery service and I regret that my right hon. Friend is unable to compensate Mrs. Moore for the loss.
