HC Deb 09 March 1966 vol 725 cc573-4W
Sir J. Langford-Holt

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1) what percentage of mutton and lamb consumed in the United Kingdom in the year 1963–64 was imported; and what this percentage will be as a result of the 1965 price review;

(2) what percentage of beef and veal consumed in the United Kingdom in the year 1963–64 was imported; and what percentage will be imported as a result of the 1965 price review;

(3) what percentage of meat consumed in the United Kingdom in the year 1963–64 was imported; and what that percentage will be following the 1965 price review.

Mr. Hoy

Imports provided about 27 per cent. of the beef and veal, 58 per cent. of the mutton and lamb and 29

figures for 1965, and shows the percentage variation between each of these years and the previous year:

per cent. of our total carcase meat supplies in 1963–64 (excluding bacon, poultry and offal and ignoring changes in stocks and live exports). It is not possible to attribute changes in the proportions of home-produced and imported supplies from year to year to any single factor.
