HC Deb 09 March 1966 vol 725 cc510-1W
58. Mr. Steele

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is aware of the difficulties encountered in reaching the Cairngorm skifields by the road from Coylumbridge; and when he proposes to authorise grant on the expenditure necessary to improve this road.

Dr. Dickson Mabon

Yes. In March, 1965, my right hon. Friend told Inverness County Council that he was prepared to authorise grants in 1965–66 and 1966–67, respectively, for two schemes to widen the road from Coylumbridge to the skifield at Coire Cas At the same time he also undertook to authorise in 1966–67 grant on a scheme to improve the main road between Aviemore and Coylumbridge; and in May he agreed to the appointment of consulting engineers to design the bridges which would be needed over the River Spey and the railway.

Mr. Noble

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what plans he has to support the skiing resorts in the Cairngorms by providing new roads to the ski slopes; and when such help will be available.

Mr. Ross

I would refer the right hon. Gentleman to the Answer I gave today to my hon. Friend the Member for Dunbartonshire, West (Mr. Steele).
