§ LORD RAGLAN
asked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether, when plating lorries to show maximum permitted load, they will consider stipulating for new vehicles a minimum power/weight ratio of, say, 15 brake horsepower per ton laden, on the ground that, unless such a stipulation is made, the plating scheme will be seen as giving official approval to the inadequate power/laden weight ratio now normally obtaining.
§ THE MINISTER WITHOUT PORTFOLIO (LORD CHAMPION)
A minimum power/weight ratio is one of the criteria which will be taken into account under present plans for type approval of new goods vehicles. The Government are considering what the standard should be, but a minimum of 15 brake horsepower per ton is in excess of anything applied or proposed in other countries.
House adjourned at nine minutes before seven o'clock.
