§ 50. Mr. David Griffithsasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what experience in local government the Chairman of the Royal Commission on Local Government, Sir John Maud, has had; and in what capacity he has served in local government.
§ Mr. Crossman:Sir John Maud served as a member of Oxford City Council from 1930–1936; he was Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education from 19451952; and has been Chairman of the Committee on Management in Local Government since 1964. With this experience and as the author of a standard work on local government he is uniquely equipped for the chairmanship of the Royal Commission.
