asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the cost to public funds of support to independent fee-paying schools in Scotland during the last financial year.

Mr. Millan

Contributions from the Exchequer and from education authorities in support of grant-aided and independent fee-paying schools amounted to £1,413,000.
