HC Deb 18 July 1966 vol 732 cc36-7W
Sir Knox Cunningham

asked the Postmaster-General if he will state the weight of mail or give some other means of assessing its volume during a stated period when two posting boxes were in use, namely the box at the junction of the Straid and Doagh roads and the box in the wall at the roadway leading to the line thread factory in Mossley, County Antrim, respectively (2) if he will state his reasons for not replacing the posting box formerly located at the junction of the Straid and Doagh roads in Mossley.

County Antrim, which was recently demolished in a traffic accident; (3) if he will reconsider his previous decision and now replace the posting box at the junction of the Straid and Doagh roads in Mossley, County Antrim, for the convenience of the people of the area.

Mr. Joseph Slater

About 60 letters a day were posted in the two boxes. It was decided not to replace the box at the junction of the Straid and Doagh roads because only about a dozen letters a day went into it, and the box in the roadway leading to the linen-thread factory was only some 200 yards away. The provision of two posting boxes so close together is not justified; but my right hon. Friend is having the posting arrangements in the area generally reviewed to see whether they can be improved, and I will write to the hon. and learned Gentleman as soon as the review is complete.
