§ Mr. John Smithasked the Minister of Transport whether she is aware of the dislocation caused to manufacturers of road traffic signs who have made expensive preparations to fulfil the requirements of the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions, 1964 by the official delays in implementing it; and if she will take steps to remedy this.
§ Mr. John MorrisLast year's deferment of capital expenditure, and increased costs, have made it necessary to extend the periods, prescribed in the Traffic Signs Regulations, 1964, for the conversion of regulatory signs on all roads and the remaining signs on primary routes. However, it is estimated that during this financial year about £4 million will be available from central and local funds for the conversion programme in Great Britain. We believe this will form a reasonable basis for the signmakers to work on.
