§ 54. Mr. Mappasked the Secretary of State for Defence if he is aware that of the 4,419 youths and girls who took up first employment in 1964 following court supervision or probation orders only 12 were recruited to the Forces; and if he will review recruitment conditions in order that policy in this field will be in line with that in industry generally.
§ Mr. J. P. W. MallalieuWe do not know how many of the total of 4,419 applied to join the Services. All applications are considered on their merits, but the fact that a candidate has been subject to court supervision or probation order must be taken into account in assessing suitability for enlistment in the Forces. I see no need to change the regulations.
