A considerable number of studies either are in progress or have recently been carried out in hospitals, under local authorities and within university departments into the development of the subnormal, including the severely subnormal. Three members of the Medical Research Council's external staff are engaged full-time, and several part-time, on studies related to this problem. In addition the Council is supporting research on the basic processes of learning which may well throw light on the subject.
