HC Deb 21 February 1966 vol 725 cc15-6W
Mr. Gregory

asked the Minister of Health what are the figures for live births in hospitals in the Stockport area; how these compare with the rest of the Manchester Regional Board area; and what action he will take to improve conditions for maternity cases.

Mr. K. Robinson

In 1964, 59 per cent. of the live births in the Stockport County Borough area took place in hospitals. The proportion for the Manchester Hospital Region as a whole was 70 per cent. Fifty-six per cent. and 68 per cent. respectively were in National Health Service Hospitals. A new maternity unit of 120 beds at Stepping Hill Hospital is planned to start next year.
