Mr. McBride

asked the Minister of Transport what information she has as to how many British ports have roll on/roll off ferry services for commercial users.

Mr. Swingler

Nine British ports have these facilities: They are: Dover, Felixstowe, Harwich, Hull, London, New-haven, Preston, Southampton and Stranraer.

Mr. McBride

asked the Minister of Transport what proposals she has received for the institution of roll on/roll off ferry services in ports not at present able to offer this service.

Mr. Swingler

Three proposed schemes have been received and authorised. They comprise terminals at Hull for a car ferry service to Rotterdam and a car and container service to Gothenburg; a terminal at Immingham for a service to Gothenburg for cars, commercial vehicles and containers; and a terminal on the Tyne for a car ferry service to Bergen.

asked the Minister of Transport if she will state, in tabular form, the British ports provided with, or about to be provided with, link-span terminals for car ferry services.
