asked the Minister of Transport if she will give a general direction in the public interest to the British Railways Board to withdraw their proposed increases in rail fares and refreshment and freight costs, in view of the serious effect which they will have on the prices and incomes policy of Her Majesty's Government.

No. I do not accept that the increases are inconsistent with the Government's Prices and Incomes Policy.
