asked the Postmaster-General what waveband he has designated for the use of private persons using two-way walkie-talkie units; how this compares with the internationally agreed waveband used in other European countries; and what answer he Rives applicants who apply for licences to use short-range walkie-talkie units.

Frequencies within the bands 71.5 to 88 Mc/s, 156 to 174 Mc/s and 450 to 470 Mc /s are available for private use of mobile radio equipment, including walkie-talkies. These internationally agreed bands, or parts of them, are used for mobile services in Europe. I license the use of walkie-talkie sets in these bands if they meet the conditions stated in my reply on 7th December to my hon. Friend the Member for Blyth (Mr. Milne).—[Vol. 737, c.297.]
