Mr. Alan Williamsasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prison escapes took place between 1951 and October, 1964; and how many of the escapers were murderers.
§ Mr. Roy JenkinsThe information is available only from 1st January, 1962. From that date to 31st October, 1964, 205 prisoners escaped from closed prisons in England and Wales, 565 from open prisons, 218 from outside working parties, and 60 from escorts. One of those who escaped had been convicted of murder.
