§ Sir R. Russellasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) when and where anyone was last sentenced to death for piracy with violence under Section 2 of the Piracy Act, 1837, as amended by subsequent Acts;
(2) when and where anyone was last sentenced to death and executed for arson in Her Majesty's Dockyards under the Dockyards, &c., Protection Act, 1772, as amended by subsequent Acts.
§ Mr. Roy JenkinsThe Home Office records do not show on what occasion the last death sentences were imposed for these offences, but no person has been sentenced to death in England and Wales for either offence since the first appearance of the Criminal Statistics in 1856.
