§ LORD BOWLESIn England and Wales 186 persons were charged with murder between November 9, 1965, when the Murder (Abolition of Death Penalty) Act 1965 came into force, and June 30, 1966, the latest date for which figures are available. Of these, 40 were subsequently convicted of murder. The corresponding Scottish figures were 27 and 8. I am trying to obtain information about the places of birth of these persons and shall write to the noble Lord.
