§ Mr. SwinglerThe position is not quite as the hon. Member seems to have understood it. As I said in reply to the hon. Member for Woking on 4th November—[Vol. 735, c.187.]—taking account of the transfers to the Board of Trade and the Welsh Office, and the transfer of the Road Research Laboratory to the Department, there was a net decrease of 228 in the staff of the Ministry between October, 1964 and October, 1966.
The net changes in staff by classes were:
Administrative -22* Executive -113* Clerical, typing and related grades -278* Engineering and technical -186* Scientific +404* Economists +20 Other professional +10 Driving and traffic examiners +424 Coastguard -531* Messengerial -167* Industrial +211* The changes marked with an asterisk arose mainly or in some cases wholly from the transfers of work to and from other Departments.
