§ 37. Sir J. Edenasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the estimated total cost of allowing the normal increases in Civil Service and local government scales of remuneration to proceed in spite of the statutory standstill on incomes.
§ Mr. DiamondRegular increments of specified amounts within a predetermined range or scale are not affected by the incomes standstill. The information upon which to base an estimate of the total cost of paying such increments in the Civil Service and local government during the standstill period is not readily available and would be too costly to obtain.
