§ Mr. Haseldineasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT a table showing the number of men and women in Her Majesty's Prisons who on 31st March, 1967, will have completed one-third of their sentence or who have at that date less than one year to serve.
§ Mr. Roy JenkinsThe number of persons in prison in England and Wales on 31st March, 1967, who will have completed one-third of their sentence or one year, whichever is the longer, is estimated at 4,450 men and 50 women. If those serving short sentences are included, the number of prisoners who will have completed one-third of their sentence or have less than a year to serve will be much larger but cannot readily be estimated.
