Mr. Milne

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will give an assurance that when discussions take place with the hotels industry regarding the new grants to attract tourists to Great Britain, consideration will be given to improving the hotel and catering standards which at present are being offered to tourists and visitors from abroad.

Where improved standards at an hotel would result in a significant increase in its overseas earnings, and where the project would require capital expenditure on structural work or on fixed equipment, the project may be eligible for a loan under the development loan scheme which I announced on 26th July.
