asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what study he has made of the evidence sent to him by the hon. Member for Peters-field regarding investment in gambling in London by the Mafia in the United States of America; and whether he will make a statement.

The communication sent to me by the hon. Member referred to a newspaper report of a Press conference in the United States at which an attorney was said to have stated that he had evidence of such investment and was coming here to investigate. He was later reported to have said that the earlier report was without foundation.

I have proposals in hand for amendment of Part II of the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act, 1963, to ensure stricter control over the provision of facilities for gaming.
