Mr. J. E. B. Hillasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what sums of public money, and from what sources, have been expended upon maintenance and capital works on Southwold harbour and on the estuary of the River Blyth, including the estimated cost of the works currently in progress, since 1945.
§ Mr. John MackieRecords are available only from 1949. Since then some £17,000 has been spent on maintenance and capital works in the harbour area with the aid of £6,000 in grants from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government and £1,635 from my Department.
87WThe estimated cost of the works currently in progress is £129,000 towards which grants have been promised of £37,500 from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, £21,200 from the Board of Trade, £14,500 from my Department and £1,500 from the River Authority.
I am informed that the cost of capital and maintenance work carried out by the East Suffolk and Norfolk River Authority in the River Blyth estuary amounted to £211,832 over the period, of which £163,790 was provided by my Department.
