HC Deb 23 November 1965 vol 721 cc31-2W
44. Mr. Wall

asked the Minister of Overseas Development if she will make a statement on her talks with the Kenya Ministers.

46. Mr. Fisher

asked the Minister of Overseas Development whether she will make a statement, following her talks with Kenya Ministers, about the British Government's future financial contribution towards land development and resettlement in Kenya.

Mr. Oram

I would invite the hon. Members' attention to the answer which my right hon. Friend gave on 16th November to her right hon. Friend the Member for Derby, South (Mr. Philip Noel-Baker).

As she undertook in her answer, my right hon. Friend has now placed in the Library of the House the fuller statement of the background of her talks with the Kenya Ministers. I have nothing to add to that statement.

51. Mr. Turton

asked the Minister of Overseas Development what are the limits she has set to the additional sum above the £18 million that she is prepared to provide to enable the Government of Kenya to deal with the compassionate cases.

Mr. Oram

No precise limit has been set on the sum that my right hon. Friend is prepared to provide to the Kenya Government for the purchase of farms of compassionate cases during the four year period beginning in April, 1966. This will depend on the number of cases that are deemed eligible for assistance. The same criteria will apply as in the past.

Mr. Chataway

asked the Minister of Overseas Development what is the result of her talks with the Kenya Ministerial delegation.

Mr. Oram

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave today to the hon. Member for Haltemprice (Mr. Wall) in answer to a similar Question.
