§ 57. Dr. David Kerrasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what evidence has been obtained by the Metropolitan Police as to the extent of the growth of prostitution in Balham; and what measures are being applied to the problem.
§ Miss BaconI understand from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that after the enactment of the Street Offences Act, 1959, loitering for the purpose of prostitution diminished considerably in Balham. Since then there has been some increase, of which the extent is difficult to assess, but it is not thought to have reached its former level. Special patrols are employed, within the limits of manpower available, to deal with this problem.
