§ 37. Sir C. Osborneasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he is aware of the need for improved educational opportunities for apprentices; whether he is satisfied that arrangements for co-ordination of such opportunities, particularly with universities, are adequate; and if he will initiate an inquiry into the educational facilities provided for apprentices.
§ Mr. PrenticeI hope to see a big improvement in the next few years, especially as a result of the work of the Industrial Training Boards, in the opportunities offered by employers to apprentices and other trainees to attend further education courses, especially by day or block release or through sandwich arrangements.
In making their recommendations on education and training for employees at the higher levels of industry, the boards will no doubt take into account the courses provided by universities and other institutions of higher education. My right hon. Friend sees no need for an inquiry.
