§ 28. Mr. Carmichaelasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if, as a contribution to understanding the causes of the North-South drift of population, he will make a factual inquiry into the proportion of central Government civil and military expenditure, other than money distributed to local authorities, which has been spent in the South-East England and Midlands Regions in the past 15 years.
§ Mr. CallaghanBecause of the form in which Central Government records are kept, I am afraid that an inquiry would not be practicable.
