HC Deb 23 March 1965 vol 709 c47W
84. Mr. Hunt

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what representations he has received from boroughs within the Greater London area regarding his decision to transfer some of their planning powers to the Greater London Council; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Mellish

Under the London Government Act the London boroughs are planning authorities in their own right, but the Act provides for the making of regulations under which certain applications for planning permission have to be referred to the Greater London Council.

There has been consultation with the Greater London Council and the boroughs in the preparation of these regulations and in general both sides are content that my right hon. Friend should settle any matters on which agreement has not been reached. One borough has made representations about a matter on which I am answering a Question today by the right hon. Gentleman the Member for Hampstead (Mr. Brooke).
